The Kitchen Sink

This past weekend we undertook another 'Man Vs. Food' challenge...The Kitchen Sink at the San Francisco Creamery. When we first saw this episode on the show 'Man Vs. Food', Jason was certain he would be able to take down this challenge because he LOVES ice cream so much. However, I think his confidence was a little shaken after his defeat in the Hellfire hot wing challenge. So, instead of Jason trying to undertake the challenge on his own, we decided to team up with my college roommate Katie and her husband, Luke. Our results as a team of four would then help Jason determine if he could take it on his own.

The current fastest completion of the kitchen sink (by one person) is 7 minutes, 45 seconds!
We arrived at the Creamery around 1 in the afternoon. The boys wanted to coat their stomachs with some 'real' food before starting the challenge, so they split a french dip sandwich. While they ate, we planned out our ice cream and topping selections. We needed 8 scoops of ice cream and 8 toppings. However, we didn't want to go with 8 different flavors of ice cream because we feared that once it started melting, 8 different flavors would not blend to taste very good. So, we decided to stick with 3 main flavor groups and take variations of those flavors. Our base flavors were coffee, mint, and vanilla with some sort of caramel, cookie dough, or chocolate chip filling. Our 8 scoops of ice cream were:
  • Coffee Cookie Dough
  • Coffee Caramel Crunch
  • Caramel White Chocolate Chip (2 scoops)
  • Mint Chocolate Chip
  • Mint Cookie
  • Cookie Dough
  • Chocolate Chip
We wanted to keep our toppings simple, so for our 8 toppings we went with:
  • chocolate syrup
  • caramel
  • chocolate chips
  • chocolate sprinkles (x2)
  • oreo
  • chocolate toffee drops (x2) ~ amazing!
Here is its grand debut: 8 scoops of ice cream, 8 toppings, whipped cream, and cherries - all to make one TWO gallon sundae!
After a few pictures and many stares from those at the tables around us, we jumped in! They make all their ice cream there at the Creamery, and it is SO good! But, it is also extremely rich. We're not talking your basic carton of Dreyer's ice cream, here. We're talking the real deal...which means lots of butter fat and all that goes along with it. While the ice cream tasted so good, it was so filling...

And in the end, we were defeated. We figured we got through about 2/3 of it before the sugar coma completely set in. In the words of Adam Richman, "In the challenge of Man Vs. Food, food won"...once again.

Yay! Love it! I think another attempt may be in order when we're properly prepped. : )
